Colorimetric Procedure

The objective is to maintain a hydrazine residual between 0.05-0.2 ppm depending on operating pressure and boiler designe. Actual consumption is determined under operating conditions.  A normal dosage is approximately 1 ltr. per day, depending of system layout.

REAGENT for Chloride :

This kit verifies if the surface is passive and if it will resist oxidation as requested by steel specifications for AISI 300 and 400. It can also be used to quickly separate Series 400 from Carbon steel.

This test will give a red/pink result when in contact with Iron. The chemicals used in these tests are not hazardous. But the surface should be carefully rinsed after the test.

An acidified sample containing a starch indicator is titrated with a standard potassium iodide-iodate titrant to a faint permanent blue end point which appears when the reducing power of the sample has been completely exhausted.

This method is applicable to drinking and surface waters, sewage and industrial wastes. The primary application has been to cooling,process and distribution water systems and boiler feedwaters to which sulfide is added in order to reduce dissolved oxygen and eliminate corrosion.

The minimum detectable limit is 2-3 mg/L SO3

STORAGE & HANDLING : 

 Keep product tightly closed in a cool, dry place (40°-75°F) and away from any heat source, flame or electricity. If product spills, remove all sources of ignition. Remove any product spills with mops or absorbent material, or flush area with large amounts of water.

ALKALINITY Titration Method for Boiler & Cooling Water ( TITRIMETRIC METHOD 0-200 PPM )

The presence of alkalinity in a water sample may be due to many different substances.  However, for the sake of simplicity, the presence of bicarbonate, carbonate, and hydroxide ions is commonly considered as alkalinity.  The points of change in colour of phenolphthalein and methyl orange indicators, which occur at pH 8.3 and pH 4.3 provide standard reference points which are almost universally used to express alkalinity.

Standard potassium iodide-iodate titrant standardized to 0.0125N

Titrate with potassium iodide-iodate titrant  until end point and faint permanent blue color develops.
 

Calculation of Results

FORMULA:    ppm sulfite as SO3  = ml  of potassium iodide-iodate (RXSOL-62-5503-006)  x       500    /  ml SAMPLE  

                        Using a 50 ml sample, sulfite, in parts per million as SO3  is equal to the ml of  RXSOL-62-5503-006 required multiplied by 10.
