Sodium metavanadate is the inorganic compound with the formula NaVO3. It is a yellow, water-soluble salt. Sodium metavanadate is a common precursor to other vanadates.
It is an important intermediate in the purification of vanadium.
Application. Sodium metavanadate has been used as vanadium source in the microbial culture media to study vanadium reduction by mesophilic and thermophilic methanogens. It can be used as a precursor in the preparation of vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) coated carbon nanotubes.
Sodium Metavanadate (SMV) is a vanadium salt that can be used as a corrosion inhibitor with good inhibition efficiency (98%) at 200 ppm. It can be used in the protection of carbon steel.
