Anhydrous or fused calcium chloride is highly hygroscopic in nature it readily absorbs moisture, also it is deliquescent in nature and is therefore used as a drying agent in a desiccator.


Solid calcium chloride is deliquescent, meaning it can absorb enough moisture to convert to liquid brine. ... When dissolved in water, solid calcium chloride releases heat in an exothermic reaction.


CaCl is an ionic compound so the prefix system does not apply.
