Dimethylglyoxime has been prepared by the action of hydrochloric acid upon biacetyl monoxime;4 by the action of hydroxylamine on biacetyl;5 by the action of hydroxylamine on biacetyl monoxime;6 and by the action of sodium hydroxylamine monosulfonate on biacetyl monoxime.
Dimethylglyoxime is used extensively in analytical chemistry in the form of detecting reagent, precipitating reagent, and photometric reagent for different metal ions such as platinum, palladium and nickel among others.
