Lithium borate, also known as lithium tetraborate is an inorganic compound with the formula Li2B4O7. A colorless solid, lithium borate is used in making glasses and ceramics.Lithium borate.Borax is very soluble in ethylene glycol, moderately soluble in diethylene glycol and methanol, slightly soluble in acetone. It is poorly soluble in cold water, but its solubility increases significantly with temperature.
Stable compound. Reactive towards strong reducing agents such as metal hydrides, acetic anhydride or alkali metals.
Used in borate fusion sample preparation of various samples for analysis by XRF, AAS, ICP-MS, ICP-AES and ICP-OES. Used to determine the trace level of elements in contaminated soil. Useful fod dissolving acidic oxides such as SiO2, and Fe2O3. A mixture of lithium metaborate and lithium tetraborate is useful for dissolving most of the inorganic oxides to enable spectrochemical analysis.
