Uses. Lithium sulfate monohydrate is used in making a special type of high strength glass. It also is used in medicine as an antidepressant, used in preparation of lithium standard solutions. Lithium sulfate is used to treat bipolar disorder (see lithium pharmacology). Lithium sulfate is researched as a potential component of ion conducting glasses. Transparent conducting film is a highly investigated topic as they are used in applications such as solar panels and the potential for a new class of battery.
The electronic polarizability of lithium sulfate monohydrate was also calculated and compared with the theoretical data using Clausius-Mossotti equation. Optical band gap calculated from optical data for the grown crystal is 4.49 eV. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy study confirmed the presence of water in the crystal structure.
