Nitro-group is meta-directing. The nitro group strongly deactivates the benzene ring towards electrophilic substitution. Nitro group is electron withdrawing group and thus causes electron deficiency at ortho and para positrons as is clear from the resonating structures of nitro benzene.
Nitrobenzene is also used to produce lubricating oils such as those used in motors and machinery. A small amount of nitrobenzene is used in the manufacture of dyes, drugs, pesticides, and synthetic rubber.
nitrochlorobenzene is a light yellow crystalline solid. Density 1.520 g / cm3. Melting point 83°C. Sweet odor.
