p-Toluic Acid is used as a reagent in the synthesis of several organic compounds including that of 2-aryl-1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives which are potential antibacterial agents. Also used in the synthesis of 4-(bromomethyl) benzoic acid.

p-Toluic Acid is used as an intermediate for polymer stabilizers, light sensitive compounds, animal feed supplements and other organic chemicals (pharmaceuticals, pigments and dyestuff). They are also used as intermediates for the manufacture of a variety of target compounds.

p-Toluic acid (4-methylbenzoic acid) is a substituted benzoic acid with the formula CH3C6H4CO2H. It is a white solid that is poorly soluble in water but soluble in acetone. A laboratory route to p-toluic acid involves oxidation of p-cymene with nitric acid.
