Copper Cyanide is a green powder. Insoluble in water. Toxic by skin absorption, through open wounds, by ingestion, and by inhalation of hydrogen cyanide that arises from slight decomposition. Produces toxic oxides of nitrogen in fires.

Copper cyanide is used in a variety of applications, including: 

 

  • Electroplating: Copper cyanide is used in electroplating copper, iron, silver, brass, and copper-tin alloys. 
  • Catalyst: Copper cyanide is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis and polymerization. 
  • Reagent: Copper cyanide is used as a reagent in the preparation of nitriles. 
  • Dye and pigment production: Copper cyanide is used to make phthalocyanine dyes and pigments.

Appearance
Copper cyanide is an off-white solid that can appear green if it contains impurities.
