Pseudocumene naturally occurs in coal tar and petroleum. It is the major component of the petroleum refinery distillation fraction known as the C9 fraction. Pseudocumene is used as a sterilizing agent and also for the production of resins, dyes, and perfumes. It is also a gasoline additive. It is also used as a solvent as paint in making dyes and in the production of prescription drugs.

Uses
Pseudocumene is a precursor to mellitic anhydride, from which high-performance polymers are made. It is also used as a sterilizing agent and in the making of dyes, perfumes and resins. Another use is as a gasoline additive.
